Ti-lakkhana

"Sabbe sankhara anicca" ti yada pannaya passati atha nibbindati dukkhe esa maggo visuddhiya.

"All conditioned phenomena are impermanent"; when one sees this with Insight-wisdom, one becomes weary of dukkha (i.e., the khandhas). This is the Path to Purity. - Dhammapada 277

"All born, formed, made, conditioned things (five aggregates) are impermanent"—when one gains insight into this through wisdom, one becomes disillusioned with the unsatisfactory nature of five aggregates. This is the very path toward nibbana.

"Sabbe sankhara dukkha" ti yada pannaya passati atha nibbindati dukkhe esa maggo visuddhiya.

"All conditioned phenomena are dukkha"; when one sees this with Insight-wisdom, one becomes weary of dukkha (i.e., the khandhas). This is the Path to Purity. -Dhammapada 278

"All born, formed, made, and conditioned things are unsatisfactory"—when one gains insight into this through wisdom, one becomes disillusioned with the unsatisfactory nature of five aggregates that are impermanent. This understanding is the very path to nibbana.

"Sabbe sankhara anatta" ti yada pannaya passati atha nibbindati dukkhe esa maggo visuddhiya.

"All phenomena (dhammas) are without Self"; when one sees this with Insight-wisdom, one becomes weary of dukkha (i.e., the khandhas). This is the Path to Purity. - Dhammapada 279

Thus, "All born, formed, made, and conditioned things are without a permanent self (soul)"—when one perceives this with wisdom, one is freed from dukkha; this is the path toward nibbana.

Dukkha : unsatisfactory state
Khandhas : five aggregates

* Dukkha = unsatisfactory nature of Khandhas (all conditioned things) that are anicca (impermanent) and anatta (not-self)

Heart Sutra

"觀自在"—these three Chinese characters hold the essence of the Buddha's teaching.

See (observe) the self within.

Thus, the name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, 觀自在菩薩, itself depicts what Buddhists must do every moment.

I truly marvel at Xuanzang's (玄奘) wisdom who translated the Prajnaparamita sutra into 摩訶般若波羅密多心經.

Heart Sutra

Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, while practicing deeply the Prajnaparamita, perceived that the five aggregates are all empty, and thereby transcended all suffering and adversity.

Shariputra, form does not differ from emptiness; emptiness does not differ from form. Form is emptiness; emptiness is form. Feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are also like this.

Shariputra, all phenomena are characterized by emptiness: they are neither born nor destroyed, neither defiled nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing. Therefore, in emptiness, there is no form, no feeling, perception, mental formations, or consciousness;

No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no form, sound, smell, taste, touch, or mental object; no realm of sight, and so on, up to no realm of consciousness; no ignorance,

And also no end of ignorance, and so on, up to no aging and death, and no end of aging and death; no suffering, cause of suffering, cessation of suffering, or path; no wisdom and also no attainment.

Because there is nothing to attain, the Bodhisattva relies on the Prajnaparamita; thus, the mind is without hindrance. Because there is no hindrance, there is no fear.

Far removed from deluded dreams and inverted views, one realizes the ultimate Nirvana. All Buddhas of the three times rely on the Prajnaparamita and thus attain Unsurpassed, Perfect, and Complete Enlightenment.

Therefore, know that the Prajnaparamita is the great spiritual mantra, the great radiant mantra, the supreme mantra, the unequaled mantra; it is capable of dispelling all suffering.

It is true and not false. Thus, the mantra of the Prajnaparamita is proclaimed. The mantra is:

Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha -3-

Unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned

There is that which is unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned.

If there were no unborn, unoriginated, unmade, and unconditioned self, then escape from what is born, originated, made, formed, and conditioned could not be known.

However, because there exists that which is unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned self, an escape from that which is born, made, defiled, contaminated, and conditioned non-self in the world is known.

Within the born, made, formed, and conditioned non-self, there exists the unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned self.

If the unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned self did not exist, liberation from the born, originated, made, formed, and conditioned non-self could not be possibly known.

Because the unborn, unoriginated, unmade, unformed, and unconditioned self exists, liberation from the formed, fabricated, defiled, contaminated, and conditioned non-self is possible.
